You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah

This movie was highly anticipated in our household due to two reasons: we love Adam Sandler movies and this was a coming of age story perfect for our 12 yo experiencing some of the same things. It was cute and funny, however, Kyrie was super embarrassed for the main girl and couldn’t watch some parts, called it extremely cringy. Glad she can relate! However, I don’t think she will watch it over and over like she does with some of the other Adam Sandler movies.

As mentioned, this movie is a coming of age for a middle schooler as she is planning her Bat Mitzvah. With this movie being based around the Jewish tradition, we decided to try a local Jewish restaurant for dinner called Chompies. We have been there for their breakfast bagels, however, never tried their dinner menu. We ended up getting two of their Famous Sliders, the Original Jewish Sliders and Don’s Western Sliders. The Original Jewish slider consists of Challah rolls filled with lean brisket, mini potato pancakes, and jack cheese. The Don’s Western Sliders are Challah rolls filled with BBQ brisket, cheddar cheese, and crispy onion strings. We also got a side of pierogies topped with sautéed onions. It was delicious! We did teeter with getting matzo ball soup, but it would have been too much for us. But it was eaten in the movie, maybe next time!

The day we did this theme, it was still summer and we were at the community pool for a good while. When we were looking up popular Jewish drinks, we found one that was refreshing, perfect for after a day at the pool. It’s was called the Purim Pucker and had frozen lemonade concentrate, mint, spiced rum, sweet and sour mix and club soda. We then replaced the club soda with a limoncello La Croix as we already had those on hand. The girls’ mocktail had the frozen lemonade, mint and the limoncello La Croix. It was a very refreshing and will have to keep tjhat in our back pocket for next summer.

We also went easy on the dessert and each picked up one from Chompies bakery. We had a Napoleon, a 7 layer cake and a cannoli! They again were yummy and glad we did the variety instead of trying to make a dessert on this one.

Hope you enjoyed the themed dinner along with the movie! Comment below your thoughts on the movie.
