Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Of the two girls that we have, Juliet has not been the biggest fan of Marvel and especially when it is a themed night dinner. When we told her this was the movie, she let us know she was not happy about that choice. However, when actually watching the movie, she seemed to enjoy it. I think because of Aquafina and her funny lines, but regardless, she didn’t complain. The rest of us thought it was great, not only because of Aquafina, but also due to the great fight scenes, fun characters and the progression of the Marvel Universe. Enough about the movie review, let's get to the themed dinner night!

We again went easy on this and decided to find a local Chinese place. If you are more inclined to cook, you can easily make whatever type you like or that your kids will eat. We decided on orange chicken with chow mein. Mostly because, this is one that our girls will eat. We also did spring rolls, which our girls devour. At the local place we get takeout from, they have the sauce separate and the one girl who is pickier can eat the chicken without the sauce, Win Win!

So, we went with the title of the Ten Rings on this dessert and had doughnuts, to represent the ten rings. It was the prefect dessert item that was round and one that we can replicate to make ten. I received a doughnut cookbook from Christmas a couple of years ago and it comes in handy once in a while and used a recipe in there. We decided on an old fashioned cake doughnut with cinnamon sugar coating. I arranged the doughnuts in one big circle on a tray. They only turned ok and I don't think the girls even finished one. Even though they weren't as tasty, they accomplished what we wanted for the theme.

For the drink we landed on The Great Protector in reference to the Chinese dragon that defeats the Dweller-in-darkness. It was a combination of Sake and Raspberry Tea. I am not the biggest fan of Sake, but the raspberry tea made it more enjoyable. The girls just had the tea, pretty simple to make. I sadly did not get any pictures of their drink!
