Coco: Remember Me

Updated: Oct 21, 2021

For this week, we had another theme dinner idea, but couldn't quite come up with all the ideas by the weekend, so last minute we changed it to Day of the Dead. We watched the underrated movies Book of Life and Coco. This one I think was Tyler's favorite theme so far! The day before the theme dinner, I took the girls to get their Halloween costumes. While we were there, I picked up some Day of the Dead makeup for the girls to paint their faces. It actually came down to me doing the face painting and I don't think they turned out bad, but not great. Regardless, the girls thought it was fun. I also crafted a few flowers out of tissue paper to make a fun and vibrant centerpiece.

As Tyler and I were coming up with this theme dinner and after doing some research, we settled on Skull burritos. Thank the afterlife for Amazon because we bought and received the skull iron skillet mold within a day and in time for the theme. We created these burritos by buying premade pizza dough and then filling each skull with what each person wanted. We had cilantro rice, black beans, ground beef, and cheese. As I mentioned before, we have a new vegetarian among us, so this worked out perfectly, as they were individual burritos and didn’t have to include the beef. We thought these turned out so cool and tasted just as good!

One of the foods the girls love is guacamole. Tyler makes his own and without jalapeños for the girls. So tonight was a perfect night for this and it went with the skull burritos as a side. And of course, we also had salsa and chips.

We again did two drinks for this theme, mostly because I didn't think the first one would go over well with the girls, and as I predicted, it didn't. We thought we would try making our own Horchata. We also made it into an adult drink by adding Vodka, a Vodka-chata. It wasn't my favorite drink either. But the next drink was good- it was a Strawberry Margarita. Can't go wrong there, especially with real blended strawberries. For the girls, we just made them a strawberry smoothie.

I liked the idea of churros for this theme, but I made it into a cake instead. We already had the tombstone pan and I found a recipe again online for the cake and the icing. It tasted just like churros with all that cinnamon sugar and was another winner for everyone.

Thanks again for stopping by and join us on our theme dinner night! Comment below if you are a fan of Coco and Book of Life.
