Pixels

We are a fan of Adam Sandler in this household and even though we did an Adam Sandler themed dinner before, we wanted to show them the movie Pixels. I am sure many people aren’t aware of the movie, but Tyler and I love it. It’s probably because it brings us some nostalgia with the video games in the movie. Who didn’t love Pac Man or Donkey Kong? Our theme dinner was inspired from the video games on the movie and despite some issues with the dessert, I think it all came together nicely.

Let’s start with the main meal. The basic premise of the movie is that aliens come to Earth in forms of video game characters. The first alien were centipedes and so we built off that. We turned simple corn dogs and chow mein sticks into centipedes! The girls got a kick out of this and gobbled them up. I might have to make corn dogs into centipedes more often!

In the beginning of the movie, there is a scene where the mom was hiding in a closet drinking wine out of a sippy cup! We of course had to do just this. We went to the dollar store and found some sippy cups. We filled it up with either wine or grape juice and drank out of sippy cups. Again the girls thought this was so funny!

I had envisioned my cake to turn out a bit better than it did, but I will say it was delicious. I am in no way a professional cake decorator and my cake may have kept wanting to slide off the icing as we were layering , but we managed to get it to stay eventually. What it lacked in presentation it definitely made up in taste. I decided on a lemon raspberry cake with homemade raspberry filling and lemon buttercream! I love lemon desserts and this was amazing! I never made any of these components before and none of them were difficult to make. But icing my cake was a bit difficult as the top layer sponge was sliding off while we were doing the side and so I only ended up icing the top. To complete the pac-man, we carved the eye out of a piece of chocolate. It did the trick! Know all I want is a piece of that cake!

This theme could also be used for an 80s video game party as well! Tell me what you thought in the comments down below.
