Ohana Means Family

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

First let me introduce myself and my family a little bit more. My name is Stephanie and my husband is Tyler. We have two girls, Kyrie and Juliet, who are 9 and 6, respectively. Due to COVID, the girls have not been in a classroom since March of this year nor really anywhere for that matter. The themed dinner idea was actually Tyler's and was brought up as we were driving back home to Arizona after a much needed vacation in Lake Tahoe. I immediately loved the idea, so we got to thinking on what we should do and the many themes we can come up with. You can base them off anything and the ideas are endless. It is kind of like a birthday party but with less kids to feed! So a week later, we started our first themed dinner...Hawaiian Luau.

Hawaii is one of our favorite places to vacation. We just visited Maui in Dec2019/Jan2020, right before the pandemic hit. So a Hawaiian Luau was the perfect one to start with and to remember the fun we had only a couple months before. We also all dressed up in our Hawaiian outfits to add to the theme! I allowed the girls to pick out mine and Tyler's outfit. It was fun to pretend we were at the beach when in reality we are in 100+ degree heat in AZ. The movie that we decided on, was a Disney favorite in our house...Lilo and Stitch. Mostly because we just watched Moana on our 13 hour drive the week before. When Kyrie was little, she loved Lilo and Stitch and we would watch it over and over (just like Toy Story, Frozen and countless other movies over the years). We even watched the cartoon series that they made.

You can't really go wrong with a Hawaiian Luau as there are so many dinner options to choose from. Tyler likes to use our smoker (and we like the results), so we decided on pulled pork sandwiches. We also looked up a recipe and made a jalapeno coleslaw. The girls didn't care for that too much, but the adults thought it was yummy! So they ended up with a side of veggies and ranch.

For the dessert, we made these beachy lemonades and they were a huge hit! Jules especially loved the graham cracker crust that we made for them. If you want something easy, no bake and a refreshing lemon flavor, this is the dessert for you. Our family is a huge fan of baking shows, but are results turn out like Nailed It!

Thank you for reading and comment below if you have ever been to Hawaii or where would you want to travel to once the pandemic is over.
