Musikfest

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

This week’s theme hits home for me, literally. I grew up in Bethlehm, a small town in Pennsylvania. Ever since I was a little girl, we would go to a music festival that was held in July/August. It’s called- you guessed it Musikfest! I have many fond memories of going with my parents and even my friends as I got older. A couple of years I even volunteered, mostly to get the free food/drink tickets. The festival lasts 10 days, which means 10 days of fun! The town closes downtown Bethlehem and places “platzs“ in various locations where musicians play. The best part, it’s FREE to attend, so you only pay for the food and drinks!

A couple of years ago, Tyler and I were able to go back my home town to enjoy all the festivities without the kids. We had a great time going from Platz-to-Platz listening to all the different music and overall just Festing. This year with COVID, Musikfest still went on but, as with everything else, it was completely virtual. So we streamed the musicians that played, made our own Platz’ and danced all evening!

Let’s start this themed dinner breakdown with our drinks. First Musikfest has their signature mugs every year and I bought some to be shipped to us, however, they didn’t make it in time (sad face emoji). Thankfully my mom has her old ones from years ago and we had a ours from our last trip so we were able to drink from them! We also really wanted the Fest signature beer, Yuengling, but also unfortunately they don’t sell it past the Mississippi. So we went with our local brewery Four Peaks instead. the girls were able to drink Root Beer and Cream Soda and let’s just say the caffeine kicked in about thirty minutes later!

Let’s be real, one of the good things about going to Musikfest or any festival is trying all the different foods! Two of the foods I always remember being there and loving, is brats and pierogies. So we decided on that for our food. The girls got one of their favorites- their cheese filled sausages. For the adults, we found Four Peaks had special jalapeño, Peach Ale beer brats. Which was an easy decision because we like jalapeño flavor and have long loved Four Peaks Peach Ale. And they were very good, albeit a bit spicy for me.

Hope you enjoyed reading and comment below what is your favorite event to go to?
