Princess and the Frog- Down on the Bayou

Updated: Aug 10, 2022

This week‘s theme was completely due to the fact Tyler really wanted Cajun food. So Princess and the Frog it was! This is a delightful movie and we ate it outside with the ambiance of the bug zapper just like we were in the south. Also, since I am not one to cook Cajun food, we decided to support a local restaurant (Da’Bayou Creole Kitchen) and order our food from there. This was our first time we used Door Dash and it was quite an interesting experience. Interesting in the fact that the driver never picked up our food and we ended up having to go pick it up.

This again was a theme, where we made two adults drinks (woohoo, double trouble). The first was a Mint Julip and was quite refreshing. We used fresh mint from our garden. The second was an Orange Julius, which was the girls drink as well.

To start off dinner, we had Hush Puppies. I love this appetizer and the girls have never eaten them, so I thought we would give it a try. Very delicious and especially with their Cajun Ranch to dip them in. I forgot to take a picture of them, so you will just have to imagine!

Even though in the movie Tiana makes jambalaya, we decided on a different route. For the main meal, we went with the seafood boil, where there would be something for everyone. There was crab, shrimp, Andouille sausage and corn. I think Tyler and I barely had a bite, so it must have went over very well.

And of course for dessert, we had beignets! The beignets came with a raspberry rose sauce and a cayenne chocolate ganache. And again there was nothing left. These were not like the ones I tried in NO at Cafe DuMonde in a past lifetime, but they were yummy nonetheless!

Thanks again for stopping by and reading about our theme dinner! Comment below if you have ever had a beignet before?
