Who didn't read the Clifford the Red Dog books when they were kids? Or watched the cartoon? I definitely did and enjoyed them very much. I am always skeptical when they remake shows/movies from my childhood. But this movie was really good. Kyrie did cry in the beginning when Clifford is abandoned in a warehouse (she is my very sensitive child), but that was soon forgotten when Clifford was adopted. The movie was very funny and I probably laughed the most. I do recommend watching this movie! Now lets get to the themed ideas.
So if you remember anything about Clifford besides him being red, his dog friend was named T-bone. T-bone did make an appearance in this movie as well. I am sure you guessed it, but we had T-bone steaks for dinner. Besides Tyler almost burning down the house as well as some human burns, the steaks turned out really good. Tyler decided to cook them first on the stove top to sear in the flavor and then put it in the oven. It smoked up the whole house and forced us to eat outside. Thankfully the weather was not too cold and then we moved back inside after airing out the house to watch the movie. We added some of my homemade mashed potatoes and fresh veggies to complete the meal.
When I started my weekly search for red drinks, I immediately came across Big Red Soda. I can honestly say I have never heard of Big Red, but knew this would be simple and well the name says it all for our theme! We added some of our favorite brand Cutwater Dark Rum to the Big Red soda and that was it. Just enough to turn it into an adult drink!
We did this theme over Valentine's weekend and I was holding this movie specifically because I wanted to make a red velvet cake. And not just a regular round cake, but a red velvet bone cake. I baked one loaf in my bread pan and 4 cupcakes and then pieced them into a bone. Not only was this a bone, but it turned out to be a BIG bone. It was really hard for me to find a platter around the house for it to lay on. I decided on a traditional red velvet cake with ermine frosting, instead of cream cheese frosting. I chose this because Kyrie does not like cream cheese frosting and I have never tried ermine frosting to my knowledge and I have definitely never made it before. It wasn't hard to make, but I have no idea if I made it correctly since I have never had it. I do remember it was very easy to spread but not easy to get the icing level. Everyone seemed to enjoy both the cake and the frosting. And the bone turned out exactly what I was
envisioning when I came up with this idea.
Comment below on what you thought if this theme dinner and if you ever tried ermine frosting! Let me know if you enjoyed the remake of Clifford the Bog Red Dog. No
