Christmas in July

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

Arizona is very, very hot during the summers and thankfully we have a swimming pool to cool us off some, but it’s still hot!!! So what better than pretending it’s Christmas in July. We were hopeful that having this theme would also brighten up our spirits during the pandemic and cool us off even though it’s 110 degrees outside!

The Grandparents got involved in this one as well which made it extra memorable for the girls! We had a surprise delivery early that day, when our favorite dip and bread was dropped off by GamGam. My side of the family has this dip as an appetizer at all the holiday get togethers. This is one of Jules absolute favorites, so much so that we literally have to pry it away from her so she doesn’t eat all of it in one sitting. She must have really been enjoying it this day because as I pulled it away, she growled at me. Not to go into detail but the dip isn’t hard to make, it is dill based and we eat it along with rye bread. Super yummy and was gone before lunch (mostly by Jules).

Tyler‘s family traditions is crab on Christmas Eve, so we decided on that for the dinner. Tyler’s mom prepared the crab and dropped it off for us, thankfully because crab sucks to make. To go along with the crab, we had our usual Christmas Eve sides: berry salad, mashed potatoes and rolls. Since it was still 100 degrees outside, we made iced ‘hot‘ chocolate as the drink with some marshmallows to top it off. To make it an adult drink, we added Cutwater Bali Hai to the iced ‘hot’ chocolate. During the dinner, we had Tyler's parents on Facetime, eating the same meal to make it like we were at dinner together. This also made it an official 2020 Covid Christmas in July!

For dessert, we made Candy Cane Pie and it turned out amazing! It consisted of an Oreo pie crust and peppermint ice cream. It totally hit the spot on making us feel like we were in the middle of winter. Also who doesn’t love peppermint, right?

So with Christmas comes the presents, so each girl got a few things from us as well as the grandparents! Throughout the evening we also played the movie Elf and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. There are so many movies to choose from, but these are favorites in our house! Thanks agin for reading and comment below what traditions your family has for Christmas?
