Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

So this is the theme that we were having difficulty coming up with the dinner menu for last week. Most of the time, the ideas come really easy and we don’t need to put much thought into them, but there have been a couple where we have no idea what to do and this was one of them! The girls have never seen the movie, so we thought it was a perfect movie to watch in the month of October...so why not make it into a theme dinner. Well it took us lots of brainstorming over two weeks to really make it seem fun. Sometimes our dinners are inspired by the culture or sometimes they are a play on the movie and some are the replicas of foods eaten in the movie. It just depends on what ideas we come up with. This one was definitely the a play on the movie!

The appetizer for this dinner turned out really good and was devoured by us all. Remember in the movie when they are sitting in the waiting room for the dead, there is a Witch Doctor with voodoo magic and he shrinks peoples heads? Well that was the inspiration for these appetizers. We made shrunken head potatoes along with a dipping sauce. So good! We used baby potatoes and each of us carved faces into them, then baked them. The potato skin shriveled and shrunk which made them really look like shrunken heads. But best of all, they were delicious.

For the main meal we made Sandworm Stuffed Pasta Shells, based on the actual Sandworm that trys to eat them throughout the movie. We used manicotti pasta shells for the body and jumbo shells for the head. Each shell type was filled with a ricotta cheese and the we dripped the sauce over the manicotti to (or tried to) replicate the stripes on the Sandworm. The girls ate them, but not sure if they really liked them. Tyler and I enjoyed them though!

The drink for this theme was of course Orange Juice based! We added orange juice and green Gatorade for Beetljuice’s hair. I also threw a fake beetle in there for a fun surprise! For the adults, we had OJ, vodka and melon liquor, which also had the same separation affect (And yes that is Tyler turned into Beetlejuice)

Maybe it is Beetlejuice’s suit but I feel the color theme throughout the movie is black and white. So, I thought black and white cookies would be a great idea. I didn’t try and make them as I was a little intimidated by them. I am sure it would have been fun to make them with the girls, but I decided against it. So I got store bought and they worked for the theme perfectly.

Thank you again for stopping by and comment below what your favorite Halloween movie is!
