All Hallows’ Eve

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

In Arizona, trick or treating is the same night as actual Halloween. So if Halloween falls on a Wednesday well then that is the night the kids go trick or treating. However, us parents are paying the price the next day as their kids were eating tons of candy the night before and you still have to go to work. So of course during the pandemic Halloween falls on a Saturday we can sleep in the next day. We decided to not go trick or treating, but did have a scavenger hunt around the neighborhood and set out candy for kids who did go. So to keep their minds off of another unusual Holiday in quarantine, we decided to do a themed dinner. I will say there are so many movies to chose from, but we decided on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and the girls were really into it! Plus the weather was nice to sit outside to eat and watch the movie.

Let‘s start with the drinks. we called them Vampirtini. In my head, I was invisioning blood dripping down the side of the cups and bright red color. Of course, not what I got. I used the strawberry syrup we had from before and dripped it on the side of the cups, but it just slipped right down into the cups. I did get the bright red color though. We used Sprite and cranberry juice for the girls and swapped out the Sprite for raspberry vodka for the adults. I added a few raspberries for a little extra flavor. In hindsight, I should have placed the cups in the fridge to let the strawberry syrup set for a bit. They still tasted good though!

For the dinner, we used the skull iron mold from another themed dinner to make pizza skulls. So instead of the build your own burrito, it was build your own pizza. Since neither girl eats pig anymore, they had pizza sauce and lots of cheese. For Tyler and me, we had pepperoni and Italian sausage. Turned out delicious and perfect for the Halloween theme! Paired with a little Graveyard Moss (salad) and it was a very good dinner.

Now onto the dessert. The plan was to have our own caramel apple dipping station. I had peanuts, M&Ms, Oreos, sprinkles and other toppings ready to go. However, when we went to pick up our groceries earlier that day, we didn’t realize the caramel dipping sauce was never given to us. So Tyler ran to the store as the pizza skulls were baking and was unable to find the caramel sauce, but scored some already dipped caramel apples! Dessert was saved and devoured by all!

Hope you enjoyed reading our Halloween theme dinner! Comment below what you favorite toppings to dip your caramel apples into?
