3 ninjas

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

Rocky loves Emily! Rocky loves Emily! This teasing line from the movie 3 Ninjas pops in my head every now again. Again 90s teen here, so I have so many movies that I loved and want to show the girls and 3 Ninjas is one of them. Plus the girls have been watching a YouTube show about a Ninja family, so it fit in perfectly. This movie is about- you guessed it- 3 young boys who spent the summer with their Japanese grandfather who is an actual ninjitsu master. He teaches them these skills and then they return home. Not to tell you the whole story, but while at home, there is a bad guy who use to practice with their grandfather and he kidnaps the boys without knowing their skills! Its a cross between Home Alone and Ninja Turtles. Anyways it’s a clean movie for kids who like ninjas.

Since the grandfather is from Japan what better than to eat some teriyaki chicken, spring rolls and sushi. Again this is a meal I would rather buy than make, so I don’t mess it up. I am in no way a chef, just a mom trying to put a fun theme together. So there is a fantastic teriyaki restaurant that I go to for lunch, but the girls had never tried it. So this could be like the Thai food trial a couple themes back and them not liking it. Thankfully this wasn’t the case and they ate the teriyaki and the white rice without any complaints. They each had to try the sushi, which was just a California roll (I.e. no raw fish) but it didn’t go over as well. Jules liked it at first but in true fashion changed her mind after Kyrie didn’t like it.

Since this was a lighthearted movie, I wanted to do something fun for the drink. Every time I think of ninjas, punch kept coming to my mind. What better than to have Ninja Punch! And yes it was your typical punch, orange sherbet and sprite. The girls couldn’t get enough of it and had a few refills! To make it more adult, we just added some Peach schnapps and Malibu rum to it.

Tyler had the idea for the dessert on this one. In the beginning of the movie, the grandfather gives the boys their ninja names: Rocky, Colt and Tum Tum. Along with the names, they each get a mask. Tyler thought the girls could make their own masks with fondant for the topping to the skull cakes. It was very interactive and fun activity for the girls and they enjoyed it! They tasted better than than looked- trust me!

Overall not a bad theme dinner. Even though I didn’t make the main meal, it was very good and a place we will definitely go with the girls again! Comment below what you thought of this theme and if you have seen this movie before.
